Desktop app

System tray, OS media key integration, and the detachable mini player on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Beyond the main window, SimpMusic's desktop build integrates with each OS's own media controls and stays reachable from the system tray even after you close it.

OS media integration

SimpMusic reports what's playing to your OS's native media controls, so system media keys, the lock screen, and quick-control surfaces all work without switching back to the app window:

System tray

Closing the main window doesn't quit SimpMusic — it keeps running from the system tray.

SimpMusic is single-instance on desktop: launching it again while it's already running just restores the existing window instead of opening a second copy, and forwards along any link you opened it with (see Links & Sharing).

Detachable mini player

A separate, always-on-top mini player window can float independently of the main window — handy for keeping playback controls visible while you work in something else.

  • Toggle it from the system tray's Open/Close mini player item (above).
  • Spacebar play/pauses, and ← → skip to the previous/next track, as long as the mini player window has focus.
  • It's resizable, and its layout adapts as you resize it — from a compact controls-only strip up to a fuller view with artwork.
  • Its position and size are remembered between launches.
