Backup & restore
Export your playlists and library to a file, restore them later, and keep automatic backups.
SimpMusic can export your data to a file you keep yourself — there is no account and no cloud sync, so a backup is the only way to move your library to a new device.
Manual backup
Settings → Backup → Backup Your Data writes a backup file you choose the location for. Restore Your Data reads one back in.
The export is a .backup file — a ZIP archive containing your playlists and library data.
Downloaded songs are opt-in
Backup downloaded data is off by default. With it off, the backup records your library and playlists but not the cached audio, which keeps the file small. Turn it on if you want downloaded content included too.
Automatic backup (Android)
Turn on Auto backup and SimpMusic writes a backup on a schedule without you asking.
| Option | Choices | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Backup frequency | Daily / Weekly / Monthly | Daily |
| Keep backups | 3 / 5 / 10 / 15 | 5 |
| Last backup | Timestamp of the most recent run | — |
Automatic backups are saved to Download/SimpMusic/ on your device, so you can find them
in any file manager and copy them off.
Retention
Once the number of stored backups passes your Keep backups limit, SimpMusic deletes the oldest ones automatically. Raise the limit if you want a longer history — nothing else prunes them.
Backups live in your device's Downloads folder. Wiping the device, or a cleaner app that empties Downloads, takes them with it. Copy important backups somewhere else.
